Last year’s VBS, Welcome to Hogwarts, included making 49 sets of “wizard” Chessmen! That’s 1,658 individual chess pieces!

2005 VBS--Star Wars: Knights of God's Love.

Coat-of-Arms shields. Hearts for some of our Princess Leia’s. Made from Baltic Birch.

Yoda Staffs. Made of Ash, each is an eight-sided staff. (See below for the simple sled jig to cut the tapers).

A simple sled for cutting the staff tapers. A screw in the far end of the sled secure the tapered end of eth staff. Four passes and rotations through the blade and voila, you have a tapered staff.

The "Space Arks" are made from fir and the wing is white pine.

2006 VBS--Sky High!

Where Superheroes train to share God's love...

Tops was a huge hits at VBS 2006. Our kids just loved them. The are made from 1/2" and 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood and the kids had a ball painting them.

The process of making them was pretty easy. A simple circle cutting jig on the bandsaw made short work of the tops. I used my lathe to turn a point and groove in the spindle. The handles were formed by utilizing a hardboard template at the router table. Easy!

Treasure Boxes

for Power Words

"Sticks and stone my break our bones but words will never harm us." We learned this childhood rhyme as a child and it is a lie! Words have been the cause of countless acts of violence and even wars. So, in our treasure box, we placed rocks that had our Superhero power words written on them. Words like Love, peace, understanding and forgiveness! Using these power words we really can be superheroes in this world full of pain!

Our boxes are made from 1/4" hardboard tops and bottoms, 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood for the sides and simple popsicle sticks for eth front and back! Glue on a couple strips of ribbon and you have instant hinges! My ruler does not show it very well, but it is 4.5" long.

The Kid's Academy Craft

This Pine recipe box is designed to be put together by the 1st- 5th grade children at our Parish’s after school program called The Kids Academy. The project’s part are all milled up and ready to be put together by the kids. We only have 25 minutes, so everything is pre-drilled and ready to go.
